Log Church Information
View Log Church Photo Gallery
Holy Family is rich in history being the oldest
continuous Catholic Parish in the United States. Holy Family was
founded in 1699 by Canadian missionaries. The present Log Church
was built in 1799, is a National Historic Landmark, and is the oldest
church west of the Alleghany Mountains. Constructed of black
walnut timbers in the traditional French Colonial style, the Log Church
is only one of five built in this style that still exists in North
America. A traditional Tridentine Latin Mass is celebrated every
Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
The Church is open for tours from Memorial Weekend
thru mid-August then weekends through Labor Day. Hours of
operation are 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. daily except on Sundays when
the Church doesn’t open until 11:00 a.m.
During the off season tours are available by
appointment by contacting the Parishes Historian, Mr. John Reed, at
618-332-8493, or Holy Family’s rectory at 618-337-4548.
Please plan on allowing a minimum of 30 minutes to
tour the church and grounds. The tour is free of charge; however,
donations are accepted.
